Ahmad Mahmoud's son is paralyzed and needs constant care, which requires electrical power 24 hours a day. The lack of a stable electricity supply meant he could no longer receive the treatment he needed in Syria.

"There was not enough power in Syria for his special mattress. This is why we left our country to come here," Ahmad says.

So he took his family to Sulaymaniyah in northern Iraq, where the electricity supply is rock-solid. But he wants to go home as soon as possible.

"I left my house and the rest of my family behind. As soon as electricity is restored, we will all go back.
