Saleh’s giant mosque (5/18)
Saleh’s mosque is huge, able to comfortably accommodate up to forty thousand worshippers at a single time. Every nook and cranny of its marble is kept ever polished, and workers can always be seen cleaning amongst the swathes of visitors. The vast expense of construction and maintenance in what has long been the poorest country in the Arab world is widely criticised. © Kit Weaver
