Argentine legend Diego Maradona's first match in charge of Al Wasl in the United Arab Emirates ended in disappointment when they lost 4-3 to an injury time strike to Al Jazira on Thursday.
Al Wasl had battled back from 3-1 down at half-time on a hot and humid night in Abu Dhabi to pull level at one stage with all of their three goals coming from Argentine import Mariano Donda.
But it was another South American, Brazilian striker Jeder Volnei, known as Bare, who plundered the late winner for Al Jazira who have dominated most matches with Al Wasl in recent times.

"My players fought well and I am very happy with them," said Maradona. "The second half, my team was the only one on the pitch. The players did their best and the result should have been 3-3."
Ibrahim Diaky, with a penalty, Matias Delgado and Ricardo Oliveira also scored for Al Jazira.
Oliveira's goal was set up by Australian defender Lucas Neill in the 35th minute.
In the other two matches played Thursday, Al Shabab defeated Bani Yas 4-1 and Ajman beat Al Ahli 3-1.
