Israeli air strike wounds two in Gaza

Three rockets fired from the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip slammed into southern Israel on Saturday without causing casualties or damage, a police spokesman said.

"Three rockets were fired at Israel and landed in uninhabited areas to the north of the Gaza Strip," spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.

Israeli warplanes carried out raids on Gaza targets overnight on Thursday after militants in the coastal enclave fired rockets at Israel.

On Friday evening, Palestinian militants in Gaza fired a rocket into southern Israel's Eshkol district but there were no reports of casualties, the military said.

Last weekend four Palestinians were wounded in retaliatory air strikes on Gaza after four rockets hit southern Israel.

Since the beginning of the year, Palestinian militants in Hamas-controlled Gaza have fired more than 40 rockets at southern Israel, army statistics show.

Hamas has maintained a tacit truce with Israel, but other armed groups regularly fire rockets across the border, usually sparking air strikes in response.
