Maryam, co-director of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights, last week decided to return from exile in Denmark to see her father, but was arrested by authorities on her arrival at the Gulf state's airport. She is now facing charges for insulting the king, assaulting police officers, and for her involvement in the campaign Wanted For Justice.
Your Middle East met Maryam in 2012. In the video clip above, she reads us her poem "Live Interview", which is both heartbreaking to watch in light of recent events, but also strikingly reminiscent of current developments across the whole MENA region.
