Photographer Sebastian Farmborough went to Saudi Arabia and came across a Kodak moment he just couldn’t afford to miss; a woman out at sea - covered in the Muslim veil.
“With the naked beaches of Barcelona a not too distant memory, I headed down to the Arabian Gulf for a dip," he told Your Middle East. Out in the water he saw something that he could not identify, then realising that it was in fact a woman.
“I think the image is very symbolic and promotes cross-cultural understanding and acceptance. These days, there is so much negative publicity surrounding the veil, it would be refreshing to see it portrayed as something that actually accentuates beauty.”
Many people may disagree with the view of the veil as an accentuation of beauty, rather seeing it as a cage of the women carrying it. At Your Middle East, we leave the political discussion to another time. Sometimes a nice photo is just a nice photo.
