Watch documentary: The Kurdish Winter

Banner Icon Documentary filmmaker Ari Murad traveled all over the Kurdish diaspora and Kurdistan to document childhood traumas and past tragedies inflicted by Saddam's Baath party.

"Why do we not have the right to be written down in the history books?" asks one of the interviewees in this thought-provoking documentary. The question is left hanging.

Ari Murad, the filmmaker, refers to the years between 1961-1991 as the Kurdish Winter, a period when nobody was listening to the suffering of the Kurdish people.

Murad writes: "In 2011 the world approved of the 'Arab Spring', their revolutions and civil disobedience caused government to collapse with militarily and humanitarian aid from the west when the despots resisted. Yet from 1961 until 1991 the world was silent during the Kurdish Winter."
